The Farm
Mwai Coffee Farm has grown coffee on this hillside for generations.
Our trees sit on the red volcanic soils of Nyeri County, on the eastern slopes of Mt. Kenya — one of the world's most respected coffee origins. Cool nights, steady highland rain and altitude do most of the work; our family does the rest, picking only ripe cherry by hand at the height of each harvest.
Every lot is processed on our own washing station: pulped within hours of picking, fermented and washed in fresh mountain water, then dried slowly on raised beds under the Nyeri sun. What leaves our farm gate is coffee we would happily drink ourselves — and we export it that way, in small, traceable, single-farm lots.

Why Nyeri
A terroir built for quality Arabica
Nyeri's reputation as one of Kenya's finest coffee-growing counties comes down to four things we didn't have to engineer — we just get to farm them well.
High Altitude
1,790 metres above sea level slows cherry maturation, concentrating sugars and acidity in the bean.
Volcanic Soil
Deep, mineral-rich red loam from Mt. Kenya's volcanic slopes feeds the trees naturally, without synthetic inputs.
Reliable Rainfall
Two distinct rainy seasons give us a main crop and a smaller fly crop, spreading picking, milling and cash flow across the year.
Prized Varieties
SL28, SL34 and Ruiru 11 — varieties bred and selected in Kenya for cup quality and resilience.
From Cherry to Container
Seven steps, one washing station, full traceability
Every bag we export can be traced back to the week it was picked. Here's the short version of how cherry becomes green coffee ready to ship.
Grown, milled and graded to export standard
Every lot is cupped before it's offered, screen-graded by size, and moisture-tested before bagging. We hold ourselves to the standard our USA partners expect at the port of entry — not just the standard required to leave Mombasa.
