Our Farm
Mwai Coffee Farm, Nyeri County
Organic-Certified Coffee Farm on the Slopes of Mt. Kenya
A family farm on the eastern slopes of Mt. Kenya, growing Arabica at 1,790 metres above sea level.
Our Story
Coffee has grown on this land for as long as our family has farmed it.
Mwai Coffee Farm sits on a ridge of red volcanic soil in Nyeri County, in the shadow of Mt. Kenya. The altitude here — 1,790 metres — sits right in the band that specialty buyers look for: high enough to slow the cherry down and build sweetness and acidity, low enough that the trees still crop reliably every season.
What started as a smallholding has grown into a farm run with real attention to detail at every stage: selective picking, careful wet-milling, and slow drying on raised beds rather than the ground. We built our own washing station so that quality control starts the moment cherry leaves the tree, not later at a shared factory.
Today, Pure Kenyan Coffee is how we bring that same coffee directly to processors and roasters in the United States — cutting out layers between our farm gate and your warehouse, and keeping the story of the coffee intact along the way.

How We Farm
Organic by practice, not just by certificate
We farm the way our land has always been farmed — without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers — and we hold an organic certification to back that up for buyers who need it on paper.
Selective, hand-picked harvest
Pickers return to the same trees multiple times through the season, taking only fully ripe red cherry — never stripping a branch in one pass.
Natural soil management
Composted cherry pulp and mulching return nutrients to the volcanic soil instead of synthetic fertiliser, keeping the land productive season over season.
Water-conscious wet milling
Our washing station recirculates and settles water before it returns to the land, keeping the process gentle on the streams that run through the farm.
Fair, direct relationships
Exporting directly means more of the export price reaches the farm and the people who work it, rather than being absorbed by extra middlemen.
